Water for Pets: The DIY Way

We've tried various methods to keep our cats happy and well watered, since hydration is key to their health (alongside tummy rubs). One of the coolest pet watering set ups comes to us from Hack a Day and does involve some Arduino and soldering skills. If you want to ensure your pet always has water, this might be the method if you're DIY minded...

Just in case you weren't geek-aware, Arduino is an open source DIY hobbyist's solution for automatic software+hardware projects...like a more tech-oriented version of those robotic Lego sets for the solder and program set.

Setting up a watering system like the one seen here is not simple, but with its automatic water sensing, it never runs dry. We would rate this as a more advance project since it involves circuit boards, soldering, and water. But, the results speak for themselves and now the original author has an automatic system to make sure her dog has fresh clean water straight from plumbing. That frees her and any other user from worrying about a reservoir going dry.
