Fancy Footwork: Furniture as Shoe Storage

Fancy Footwork: Furniture as Shoe Storage

Maybe you're a sneakerhead. Maybe your collection of gorgeous heels is your pride and joy. Maybe your tiny closet is overflowing with things you still wear. If any of these sound familiar, why not repurpose a great piece of furniture and make your shoes part of your decor?

The trick to this look is making sure the cabinet is as good-looking as the shoes. It's even better if the styles compliment one another — perhaps a graceful midcentury piece for your Sperry topsider collection or a delicate glass cabinet for your ribbon-bedecked sandals. Another key is placement — for example, dinner guests may not want to eat face-to-face with your shoes. Done well, however, it's a wonderful way to show off both your interior design and fashion sensibilities while maximizing the storage in your home.
